First Sentence Writing Contest – No Fee

Here is a contest that all of you can do.  All you have to write is one sentence, so no excuses.  Even I found time the to write a dozen first lines.  You can submit right on line, so you don’t even have to go to the post office. 

It is Writer’s Digest Your Story:  Special “Big 10” Issue Prompt.

For the September “Big 10” issue of Writer’s Digest is doing something a little different for the Your Story Contest. They’re featuring the 10 best story openers based on the photograph below incorporating the number 10.  (This is a bonus contest that was not announced in the magazine.)

Here’s how it works:

Simply write the opening sentence to a story based on the picture below. Please limit your sentence to 35 words or fewer.


10 winners will be chosen by the staff of Writer’s Digest and receive publication in our September 2010 issue.

The deadline for this contest is May 14, 2010.  (Include number of competition in subject line.)
