Jessica Dandino Garrison, Editor at Dial BFYR

JESSICA (DANDINO) GARRISON, Editor, Dial Books to Young Readers

It turns out that fundraising wasn’t Jessica Garrison’s calling, and so she packed up and moved to New York City to do something she might actually be good at—children’s book editing. After assisting the head of Penguin’s children division and acquiring an indispensable overview of the industry, Jess joined Dial Books for Young Readers in 2004. She’s drawn to funny but thoughtful picture books, and fresh, authentically voiced middle grade and young adult fiction.

Her tastes straddle the commercial/literary divide, from dark future dystopias to sassy chick-lit (with brains and heart), sexy historical fiction to high-speed (mis)adventures, irreverent coming-of-age tales to updated fairytales with a twist, and beyond. But regardless of format or genre, she’s always a sucker for the smart, character-driven story. Her recent and upcoming titles include Spin the Bottle by Elizabeth Cody Kimmel, the Storm series by E. L. Young, Be Gentle with the Dog, Dear by Matthew J. Baek, Doggone Dogs! by Karen Beaumont and David Catrow; Paisley Hanover Acts Out by Cameron Tuttle, Patricia von Pleasantsquirrel by James Proimos, and Huck the Goat by Sean Taylor and Peter Reynolds.

She does not like e-mail submissions, so alway sanil mail them to her.  Lucky for us she found her true calling and became a children’s editor.  We love her in New Jersey.

  1. I would like to submit a book query to Jessica Dandino Garrison to see if she is interested in taking on my tweens to YA fantasy. I understand that she prefers snail mail submissions and would like to have an accurate address for where I should send it.

    • This is an old post. You can find the companies info on the Internet. I have her email, but I wouldn’t want to give that out without her permission.
