Anthology and Novel Opportunity

wicked tales

Wicked Tales is a Canadian company and is an imprint of DAOwen Publications. The imprint is now opened to accepting authors of high quality.

Wicked Tales already has a world-wide network for distribution, uncompromising quest for quality, quick understanding of technology and “plain old fashion customer service” along with a great respect for its current and future authors.

Wicked Tales is a content provider to a number of high profile companies; among these you will recognize Ingram, SONY, Amazon, Barnes & Noble, Kobo, WH Smith and Apple. Unlike other publishers that use a third party to distribute their content, Wicked Tales profits from a direct relationship with many companies. We also distribute to many smaller companies such as eBooks.com, Diesel eBooks, as well as a number of international eBook retailers around the world.

But we don’t stop there. All our published books are available in print through all book stores around the world.

Here at Wicked Tales we believe an author should write their stories the way they want to. It doesn’t matter what font you use, how big or small the print is, but please use .RTF,  .DOC, .DOCX or .OTD files when submitting to us.

Please remember NOT to use strange formatting. Ensure you have a return or enter keyed in at the end of each paragraph, not each line. Avoid using the “Tab” in your document.

Send your submission to our parent company at submissions@daowenpublications.ca with the subject “Short Story Submission – Muffled Scream”.

What we are looking for

Short Stories – The life blood of an author, short stories can fuel the imagination with so few words. Ranging from 3,000 to 20,000 words, your writing could easily be the pivotal story of our anthology series.

The theme for the first Muffled Screams is “Corner of the Eye”. Submissions for the first Muffled Screams opens June 1st and closes August 31st.

How to submit to us

Submitting to us is easy.

You only need two things – Your short story and a small two paragraph bio of yourself. This should be supplied with your manuscript.

Attach both to an email entitled “Short Story Submission – Muffled Scream” indicating which anthology you are submitting to and send it to our submissions email address. This email address is set to delete emails with no attachments. If you have a question, please use the contact us form. This is very important. Don’t run the risk of not having your short story published.

Please remember to include your bio. Several short stories were received without one, and your submission will be returned if one is not included.

We are starting to get busy!

Once the submission period is closed for an anthology we will evaluate each one, and decide which will be included. It can take two months to decide if your short story is acceptable for our anthology. Please do not email questions to the submissions email address for our system automatically deletes anything without attachments.

We will accept first time authors!

Yes, if you have never been published before there is a chance you are accepted for publication with us. All you need is a good query letter and a fantastic manuscript. Follow our submission steps and we will do the rest.

We look forward to your submission!

Payment

All short stories are paid at $0.01 per word (after editing) up to a maximum of $150.00. All payments will be made via PayPal and in the first quarter of publication. Then, if the issue your story is included in breaks a profit, 50% of the net profit will be shared between the contributors on a per word basis for two years after the publication date.

Rights

The author retains all rights to their submitted short story. The story may not be published with another publisher or self-published in any form for one year after the publication of the anthology’s release date.

*******

Do you have a novel? If you do, you can also submit it for publication consideration. Send your submission to submissions@daowenpublications.ca with the subject “Novel Submission – Wicked Tales”.

What we are looking for

Novels – Full novels ranging from 60,000 to 90,000 words. Is your manuscript longer? Don’t worry, you can still submit it.

How to submit to us

You need two things:

  1. A query letter
  2. The first 3,000 words of your manuscript

Attach both of the above to an email entitled “Novel Submission – Wicked Tales” and send it to our submission email address. This email address is set to delete emails with no attachments. If you have a question, please use the contact us form. This is very important. The query letter will tell us if we want to look at your manuscript. Your first 3,000 words will tell us if we want to possibly publish you.

It can take up to 6 weeks to examine your manuscript. Please do not email questions to the submissions email address.

The Query Letter

This is usually the most controversial thing out there. What should a query letter contain? How long should it be? Who do I address it to?

Answers:

Your query letter must contain three parts. You can address it to the Editor.

  1. A one paragraph synopsis of the manuscript
  2. A short one paragraph BIO of yourself
  3. Any publishing credits, awards won, writing jobs or what got you into writing

A good query letter gets your manuscript read so spend some time on it.

Good query letter synopsis:

In the dystopian society, one man holds his will against the ever-growing immoral decay of society. Unwilling to turn his back on the one true god, he strives to save his family and a selection of wildlife to be used in order to repopulate the world after a major holocaust rains down on them. Battling against his inner demons, a society that outcasts him, and a family in ruins, he races to build a life raft to save mankind.

Bad query letter synopsis:

This is the story of Noah and how he built the ark to save humanity from God’s wrath.

We accept first time authors!

Yes, if you have never been published before this is your chance. All you need is a good query letter and a fantastic manuscript. Follow our submission steps and we will do the rest.

We look forward to your query letter and manuscript submission!

Talk tomorrow,

Kathy
