A Map to Draw From: Charting a Multi-layered Illustration Career

SCBWI France has invited Leeza Hernandez, a US-based children’s book illustrator/author to share some of the challenges she faced and steps that she took to help create a work practice that now yields a diverse stream of revenue whilst actualizing what she loves to do— make art!

It’s hard to figure out what to do when illustrating kidlit alone isn’t enough to generate a sustainable income. The process can be daunting trying to do it all without risk of spreading yourself too thin or crashing into burnout. But juggling multiple illustration disciplines is definitely possible— you just need an effective game plan.

In this webinar, Leeza will discuss various fields from children’s books to Etsy sales and product development, art licensing, niche-market conventions and beyond.

Leeza will help you navigate ways to:

Execute a personal plan

Set a practical budget/strong>

Implement a daily practice

Boost inspiration

Stay motivated

Avoid burnout

Embrace sacrifice

Maintain a rolling check list

The session will wrap up with a short Q+A.
