We are interested in literature that engages and challenges readers, and which asks probing questions about the world around us.

They publish between 14 and 20 new titles per year, as well as an average of 12 to 15 reprints; our books are distributed in Canada, the US, Great Britain, Australia, and English-speaking Europe, and translations of our books have appeared in China, Japan, Taiwan, South Korea, France, Spain, Italy, German, Turkey, and Brazil.

Arsenal Pulp Press gratefully acknowledges the financial support of the Government of Canada (through the Canada Book Fund, the Canada Council for the Arts, and Livres Canada Books) and the Government of British Columbia (through the Book Publishing Tax Credit Program) for our publishing activities, and the Canada Council for the Arts and the British Columbia Arts Council for our publishing program.

They accept Authors outside of Canada.

Please only submit books that are in the above listed categories. If your not sure your work fits, it probably does not, but browsing their catalog might help give you a better feel for what they actually publish.

How to send us a proposal (please read carefully!)

We appreciate your interest in Arsenal Pulp Press. Please understand that we are a small independent press that receives many unsolicited manuscripts, so it is essential that you know your book will suit our publishing program (see above) and that you follow the submission guidelines below. (The majority of submissions we receive are good books, but just not the type that we publish, or the submissions do not follow the guidelines and therefore slow down the process.)

Each submission must include: a synopsis of the work, a chapter by chapter outline for non-fiction, writing credentials, a 50-page excerpt from the manuscript (do not send more, it will be a waste of postage; if we like what we see, we’ll ask for the rest of the manuscript), and a marketing analysis. (Not sure what a marketing analysis is? Try Googling “market analysis for books” to get some tips and see some examples.) If our editorial board is interested, you will be asked to send the entire manuscript.

We will accept simultaneous submissions, but we request that you advise us if this is the case.

If sending your submission from Canada, enclose a self-addressed, stamped letter-size envelope. If sending from outside Canada, please provide an email address to which we can reply. The US Postal Service no longer sells International Reply Coupons (IRCs) and we cannot send mail with non-Canadian stamps. Also, please let us know if we can recycle your materials; if you would like your materials returned, please ensure the envelope is of sufficient size, with sufficient postage. Only those who enclose a self-addressed, stamped envelope (or email address) are ensured a reply.

We will try to respond within six months of receiving your material. If you would like a confirmation of receipt of your material, please include a self-addressed, stamped postcard, which we will drop in the mail upon receipt. Again, this will only work with Canadian postage.

We do not accept submissions by fax or email, and we do not discuss concepts over the phone.

Send submissions to:
