DD’s Starving Writers Contest – First Prize $500!
The Franklin County Writers’ Guild is the recipient of an anonymous gift to fund a free fiction writers contest titled DD’s Starving Writers Contest. This will be a one-time only fiction contest with the following prizes: 1st place-$500.00; 2nd place-$250.00; 3rd place-$100.00. The final judge for the contest is Nancy Peacock, the author of the novels Life Without Water (chosen as a New York Times Notable Book), Home Across the Road, and The Life and Times of Persimmon Wilson, as well as the memoir and “writing-in-the-real-world” guide A Broom of One’s Own: Words on Writing, Housecleaning and Life. Peacock was Piedmont Laureate in 2018. She has facilitated several writing workshops and retreats for women. Her free Prompt Writing Class has been active since 2003 and continues to gain in popularity.
The following guidelines must be strictly adhered to for submissions to be accepted:
The contest is only accepting fiction writing which may include short stories or novel excerpts. Submission dates: December 1, 2018-May 1, 2019
Email manuscripts not exceeding 3000 words, double spaced, 12 pt Time Roman font.
Submissions shall not have been previously published and only one submission per author. Send only your own original work. FCAC members of the contest committee, or anyone associated with this contest may not enter.
Your manuscript should not have your name or any identifying information on it. All contact information: Name, title of submission, address, phone number, email address and a short author bio must be on a separate cover page. Send entries and cover page as email attachments to Starvingwriters2020@gmail.com

Thanks, Kathy! I’m assuming fiction writing (short stories or novel excerpts) does not mean fiction picture books, right? 🙂
