My Favorite YA and Adult Books Read in 2018

Valeria Wicker sent in this gorgeous illustration to remind us that December is a great time to buy and read a book. http://www.valeriawicker.com/

I read over 242 books in 2018. Below are my top 5 star YA and adult books.

Adult Humorous Romantic Fiction:  In 2016 Helen Hoang was diagnosed with Autism Spectrum Disorder in line with what was previously known as Asperger’s Syndrome. Her journey inspired THE KISS QUOTIENT. This was a book where I kept saying, “I love this book” from the beginning to the end. Don’t miss this one. You will love the characters and the story, too. Loved it!

Adult Literary Romantic Humorous Fiction: Great book! From the very beginning, I couldn’t put it down. I am so glad I own this book. It is perfect. Love the NYC theater setting and the characters are awesome. Don’t miss reading this book. There is a good reason why it has gotten so many five start reviews.

Adult Literary Romantic Fiction: I have read every book by Christina and Lauren, so you know I am a fan, but this book is one of their best. I LOVED IT. This was their first foray into Woman’s Fiction and it was beautiful. I hope they write another book along these lines, but I still want to read their sexy, fun loving books with those wonderful characters, so keep writing.

YA Contemporary: This is a perfect young adult book that everyone will love. If you are a writer of contemporary YA books, you should read this book to see how it is done. Everyone else should read for the effortless writing and wonderful, heartwarming story with great characters. You will enjoy spending time with them. Popular high school takes high functioning autism /Asperger’s boy under her wing.

YA Futuristic: This is a great series. Filled with twists and turns, adventure, social angst, and great writing. It’s a nice time to read, since all three are available. Each chapter is about a different character. One suggestion is: write down the names of each character with the information you know about them. This will eliminate trying to remember each character. The text helps you remember, but I wish I had done it in the beginning, especially since there were months of waiting for the next book to come out and many other books read in between Don’t miss reading. It is an usual tail.

Adult Humorous Romantic: I loved this book. So much fun. Good writing and plot, plus great characters. Will definitely read more of Natasha’s books.

Adult Humorous Romantic: I read WRONG AND RIGHT when they first came out and loved them. Somehow I missed reading TRUST when it came out. Just like the first two books this one is so much fun. I love when a sexy book can be laugh out loud funny. You will enjoy every minute with Chloe and Boyd.

Adult Humorous Romantic: A deliciously sexy, FUNNY, romantic book. Enjoyed every page.

YA Contemporary: I loved this YA, the characters, the writing, and story. Funny, flirty, perfect romantic comedy. Didn’t want to put it down.

YA Contemporary: Excellent read. Heartwarming, funny, nice story with great characters wrapped around a food truck setting.

YA Contemporary: Indian-American protagonists who’s parents have essentially “suggested” a potential arranged marriage between the two, I can’t speak for the representation. Didn’t understand all the Indian words, but I loved the characters, the fun, the story, and the writing.

YA Contemporary: Great book. Loved the story and the characters. A joy to read. Didn’t want it to end.

YA Contemporary: The cover suggests a wedding with funny mishaps and that is exactly what you get with a heartwarming family and story. Worth every star. Fun read, great characters, and a strong story.

YA Romantic Contemporary: This is the last book in the acclaimed “All the Boys I Loved before.” A very good series. Enjoyed each one.

YA Contemporary: Described as Oceans 11 meets The Breakfast Club in this entertaining, fast-paced debut filled with pranks and cons that will keep readers on their toes, never sure who’s pulling the strings or what’s coming next. Lots of plot twists told with a great voice.

YA Humorous Romantic Comedy: Generations of Dupree High Schooler’s have successfully followed the (100% accurate!) love fortunes from Zita’s famous Love Charms Shop to happily marry their high school sweethearts. At first I wasn’t sure this was my type of story, since I usually don’t go for folk or fairy tales. I am so glad I didn’t put it down. I’m not sure how to categorize this book. I see it as a modern day whimsical – magical – unusual love story – a tall tale. It has a very clever plot and it well-written and well-thought out. A very fun read and I love the cover, too. Was drawn to the spells and love potions.

Romantic Comedy: This was a very good book – well-written, characters you want to spend time with, a sexy, heart warming, with some very funny scenes, and of course a happy ending.

YA Romance: This is a great book. The characters are well written as is the plot and theme of a homeschooled girl with epilepsy who mother puts her in public school. I am so glad I read this book.

Adult Romance: Another five star book in this series. Can’t wait to read all of them. Great characters, good writing and story.

Adult Contemporary: I hated to see this series end. All six are fabulous. Loved the characters, the action, and the romance. Well, written plots.

Adult Fiction: This is a stellar book. Don’t miss reading this one. It’s a great blend of the past and the present – historical and contemporary woven together. Joy must have spent an enormous amount of time researching this book. The writing is top-notch.

YA Fantasy: This definitely is a five star book. Loved the storytelling – The characters – The romance – The adventure – The tension – The Espionage, lies, and the writing. Can’t wait for the next book in the series to come out. Don’t miss this one.

YA Fantasy: A great ending to a great series. Glad I decided to read all of them. Great writing!
