Brickhouse Books Poetry Contest – Book Winners

BOOK WINNERS:

Lindsay H. Metcalf won THE TWELVE DAYS OF CHRISTMAS IN TENNESSEE

Kaitlyn Leann Sanchez won BAGEL IN LOVE by Natasha Wing

Nancy Riley won MIRACLE ON 34TH ST. by Valentine Davies

Please send me your addresses. Thanks!

The WWBC is looking for book-length poetry collections thematically connected by the “wicked woman” theme. Both “wicked” and “woman” can be interpreted in many ways; poet’s choice.  A good example of the kind of manuscripts we’re looking for is Kathi Wolfe’s THE UPPITY BLIND GIRL POEMS, winner of a recent BrickHouse Books Stonewall Competition.

Submit your work using Submittable.  Send a cover letter including the title of your submission along with one document, preferably in Word, containing between 42 and 64 pages of poetry.  Your name should not appear on the poetry document.

Note: Visually impaired poets can submit to BhB’s director and editor in chief Clarinda Harriss at clarindaharriss13@gmail.com and mail the entry fee to BhB, Inc., 306 Suffolk Road, Baltimore, MD 21218-2521.

Judge: noted poet Rose Solari.

Prize: $250 and publication of your book by BrickHouse Books, Inc.

Entry fee: $10.  BhB, Inc. is a not-for-profit literary press. We operate on a shoestring budget.  Your entry fee helps keep us afloat.

Rose Solari is the author of three full-length collections of poetry, The Last Girl, Orpheus in the Park, and Difficult Weather; the one-act play, Looking for Guenevere; and a novel, A Secret Woman. She has lectured and taught writing workshops at many institutions, including the University of Maryland, College Park; St. John’s College, Annapolis, Maryland; Arizona State University, Tempe; and The Centre for Creative Writing at the University of Oxford in England. Her awards include the Randall Jarrell Poetry Prize, an Academy of American Poets’ University Prize, The Columbia Book Award, and an EMMA award for excellence in journalism. She is currently at work on a second novel.

Talk tomorrow,

Kathy
