Page Street Publishing Call for YA Proposals from Marginalized Creators

Page Street Publishing is a mid-size independent publishing house distributed by Macmillan. Our goal is to discover talented writers who create believable, diverse characters and tell riveting stories that engage with the YA book community.

To that end, Page Street Publishing’s young adult imprint is putting out a call for YA fiction proposals from authors whose voices have historically been underrepresented in publishing. This includes (but is not limited to) LGBTQIA+, Native peoples and people of color, cultural and religious minorities, people with disabilities, neurodiverse persons, people living with illness, people on marginalized ends of the socioeconomic spectrum, and more. Decisions regarding eligibility are the author’s to make, nor will authors be required to disclose anything they are uncomfortable with.

Only unagented proposals will be accepted.

Proposals must be for new, original YA fiction. Work that has been previously published or contracted in any format (including online or self-published) is not eligible.

This submissions opportunity is open to marginalized creators who have not previously been traditionally published.

#ownvoices projects are not required, though they’re certainly welcome!

Page Street Publishing welcomes and encourages manuscripts from marginalized creators at all times. This open call is just an opportunity for unagented authors to submit proposals rather than full manuscripts.

Proposals will be accepted from May 30, 2018, through August 1, 2018 (11:59 EST). Work submitted outside of this window will not be reviewed.

Proposals may be for any fictional genre aimed at young adults. Nonfiction and graphic novels will not be considered. Manuscripts do not have to be completed, but sample pages should exemplify the author’s best work.

Proposals should include (in order): a cover page, full synopsis (3-4 double spaced pages), and sample chapters (approximately 50 double spaced pages), all pasted within a single document. Proposals should be composed in a legible 12-point font and saved as a Word document. Please include in your header: TITLE/ Last name/ Page #. The cover page should include project title, author’s name, email address, a query pitch, and any relevant biographical information the author wishes to disclose.

Proposals should be emailed to with the subject line YA OPEN CALL: Title. We will respond to submissions of interest within two to three months of the close date.

Proposals will be reviewed by Page Street’s YA editors and acquisitions staff.
