EDITOR STEPANIE GUERDAN AT HARPER CHILDREN’S – HARPER TEEN JOINING SECOND SESSION
Stephanie Guerdan came to HarperCollins in 2017 following jobs at a literary agency and as a bookseller. Some of the titles she has worked on include New York Times best-selling author Natalie Lloyd’s Problim Children trilogy, critically acclaimed author Tiffany D. Jackson’s sophomore novel Monday’s Not Coming, and The Lady’s Guide to Petticoats and Piracy, the sequel to the Stonewall Honor-winning The Gentleman’s Guide to Vice and Virtue by Mackenzi Lee. She is interested primarily in middle grade and YA, especially in speculative genres and graphic novel formats, with a focus on inclusive stories from fresh voices.
SECOND SESSION: September 27th – 29th – Check in Sept. 26th afternoon – Check out morning Sept. 30th.
The Avalon Full Manuscript Writers Retreat in Avalon, NJ has two openings. Besides getting an agent and editor to read and critique your full manuscript, you will get help polishing your manuscript and new ideas to help get it published. The retreat is small enough with only eight writers and two professionals to allow everyone personal time with the editor and agent.
I rent a very nice house (see pictures below) in the ocean resort where we all work, eat, learn, and have fun together. Everyone gets a full manuscript critique with one of the professionals and a 30 page critique with the other. We split into two groups. Each group reads the other three writers manuscript, critique and discuss. Each writer will get one hour in the group to go over their manuscript. Group critiques are invaluable. We also have a first page session during the retreat and I have some new games and brainstorming sessions planned to improve your writing in the evenings. There is plenty of time to talk about and revise your manuscript if needed. Plus, there is free time to walk the beach or swim in the pool. Space is limited to eight writers.
Cost varies according to room starting at $830, all include three night housing, meals, and critiques. Please send an email if you would like to secure a spot. Put “Avalon Writer’s Retreat” in the subject area and let me know what you have written – Grade level – Genre – Word Count – brief description. kathy.temean(at)gmail.com

Donna,
Thanks for helping to spread the word. I still need to fill two spots. Maybe it will encourage a writer to join us.
