Stevie Moon is famous…at least to the subscribers on her comic review vlog. At school, she’s as plain as the gray painted walls in the cafeteria. So when Blake, the hot new guy at school, shows an interest in her, she knows trouble when she sees it. Been there. And never doing it again.
As the son of the god Thor, Blake Foster’s been given an important mission—to recover the Norse god Heimdall’s sacred and powerful horn before someone uses it to herald in the destruction of the entire universe. But while Blake is great in a fight, the battlefield that is a high school’s social scene is another matter.

Blake knows his only choice is to team up with the adorable Stevie, but she’s not willing to give him even the time of day. He’ll need to woo the girl and find the horn if he hopes to win this war. Who better to tackle Stevie’s defenses than the demi-god of thunder?

The journey my new release THUNDERSTRUCK started many years ago. My sons were always dragging me to superhero and fantasy movies. They were obsessed with Norse mythology and Thor. We’d never miss a new movie release that had superheroes or fell in the fantasy genre. The boys ended up with boxes of comics over the years and figurines. And I was hooked on all things magical.

Flash forward to a conference I attended in 2015. During a coffee meeting with my publisher, she mentioned she wanted a story with some sort of mythology. It was for the publishing company’s new young adult category romance with a bit of magic line, Crave. I was up for the challenge and immediately knew it had to be inspired by Norse mythology.

I imagined the story as a dual point of view with Blake Foster, one of Thor’s sons, and Stevie Moon, a comic loving teen. When they meet, their worlds collide and sparks fly—literarily. I wanted them both to have a secret identity. Sort of like most superheroes who conceal their identities. Like with a pair of glasses or by wearing a mask.

It was so much fun diving into research. I wanted to stick closer to the Norse mythology with Blake’s story and touch on the comic side with Stevie’s story. I’d taken creatures and elements from the Norse mythology and made up some of my own.

I really enjoyed writing Blake and Stevie’s story, but one character’s journey surprised me. Blake’s brother, Kyle. He’s a little crass, but his humor and his growth really connected me to him. He was so much fun to write and every time he came onto the page, I smiled at his antics. If I get to write another book in this world, I’d want it to be in Kyle’s point of view.

THUNDERSTRUCK has trolls, ravens, Fenrir’s wolf pups, Frost Giants, Loki, and more that make an appearance in the story. The mythology is a great backdrop for the budding romance between Blake and Stevie. I had so much fun writing this book and I’m excited to share it with readers.

Brenda Drake is a New York Times bestselling author of Thief of Lies (Library Jumpers #1), Guardian of Secrets (Library Jumpers #2), Touching Fate (Fated Series #1), and Cursing Fate (Fated Series #2). She grew up the youngest of three children, an Air Force brat, and the continual new kid at school. She hosts workshops and contests for writers such as Pitch Wars and Pitch Madness on her blog, and holds Twitter pitch parties on the hashtag, #PitMad. When she’s not writing or hanging out with her family, she haunts libraries, bookstores, and coffee shops, or reads someplace quiet and not at all exotic (much to her disappointment). Look for her upcoming novels, Thunderstruck, Seeking Fate (Fated Series #3), and Assassin of Truths (Library Jumpers #3) coming soon from Entangled Teen.

Brenda is represented by Peter Knapp at The Park Literary Group.

Talk tomorrow,

  1. Sounds really fun!

  2. I’m intrigued by the blend of ancient mythology and current pop culture trends. I think a lot of people will find this story fascinating. Thanks for the chance to win a copy. For a couple of extra entries I tweeted a link:, and pinned it to Pinterest: Thanks again!
