Agent Looking for Clients – Quressa Robinson

Quressa Robinson is an Associate Agent with D4EO Literary agency actively building her client list. Formerly she was an acquiring editor for St. Martin’s Press, an imprint of Macmillan Publishers where she edited both fiction and nonfiction. Her acquisitions include CERTAIN DARK THINGS (a Publishers Weekly Fall Announcement Top 10 Pick and October B&N Staff Pick) and THE BEAUTIFUL ONES–both by Locus, World Fantasy, Sunburst, and Aurora Award-nominated author Silvia Moreno-Garcia; SPELLS OF BLOOD AND KIN (which received a starred PW review) by Claire Humphrey; and THE ATLAS OF FORGOTTEN PLACES by Jenny D. Williams.  She is an alumnus of the University of California Santa Cruz, Columbia University’s MFA program, and House Slytherin. There is power in the dark side.

Her interests in fiction include historical fiction like THE SPICE BOX LETTERS by Eve Makis (2016)—particularly untold stories (Apartheid, the genocide in Rwanda or any other non-European historical events or something similar to the movie Belle which features a black aristocratic woman in 18th Century England, American history—the Harlem Renaissance, Japanese Internment, Chinese immigration to the West Coast/building of the railroad, The Great Migration, The Trail of Tears,) with a diverse cast of characters. But, I also love and devour a heavy dose of romance, women’s fiction, literary fiction, memoir, science, history, and humor—I am especially looking for solid platform-driven non-fiction and am particularly looking for a female scientist to add her voice to pop science icons like Neil deGrasse Tyson, Brian Greene, and Bill Nye.

She is eager to introduce universal stories featuring diverse characters and protagonists to mainstream audiences like CERTAIN DARK THINGS by Silvia Moreno-Garcia (2016) a vampire story, set in Mexico City, infused with Aztec mythology, THE BEAUTIFUL ONES (2017) a historical fantasy also by Silvia, and THE ATLAS OF FORGOTTEN PLACES (2017) a deeply moving novel set in Uganda in 2008 by debut novelist Jenny D. Williams.

She is particularly interested in OwnVoices and Inclusive Narratives. Genre bending is also great, i.e. epic fantasy romance or upmarket fantasy.

Her tastes are a bit eclectic, but she is most drawn to literary voices in commercial packages. Wonderfully, realized characters, untold stories, immersive world building, and complex narrative approaches/plots.
