The Winner of Amy Dyckman’s HORRIBLE BEAR is Teresa Robeson – Congratulations! Please send me your address, so it can be put in the mailed.
Ame Dyckman has agreed to offer her new book, HORRIBLE BEAR, to one lucky winner. All you have to do is leave a comment to get in the running. Reblog, or tweet, or talk about it on facebook with a link and you will get additional chances to win. Just let me know the other things you did to share the good news, so I can put in the right amount of tickets in my basket for you before drawing the winners on May 3rd .
Book Description:
The New York Times-bestselling duo behind Wolfie the Bunny presents a hilarious new book about accidents, outbursts, manners…and the power of saying “I’m sorry.”
Bear didn’t mean to break a little girl’s kite, but she’s upset anyway–upset enough to shout “HORRIBLE BEAR!” Bear is indignant. He doesn’t think he’s horrible! Then Bear gets a truly Horrible Bear idea. What will he do next? As Bear prepares to live up to his formerly undeserved reputation, the girl makes a mistake of her own, and realizes that maybe–just maybe–Bear isn’t as horrible as she had thought.
Don’t miss Horrible Bear’s new video below:
The Journey:
THE SECRET BACKSTORY about my new picture book with (the BRILLIANT!) Zachariah OHora, HORRIBLE BEAR!
FOR THE VERY FIRST TIME IN PRINT (I think. Unless I sleep-Tweeted!), I’ll expand on our little blurb-in-the-back-of-the-book and give THE SCOOP on my REAL-LIFE inspiration for HORRIBLE BEAR!
Back in the day, I had… a SHARK! A brand-spankin’ new KICK-BOOTY black shark kite for our small town’s Kite Day Festival. In my mind, I could see my shark DIVEBOMBING through the sky, pectoral fins spread wide, its HUGE white teeth striking FEAR into the hearts of the little pastel kites below!
But what REALLY happened was…
About 2.3 seconds after my shark launched into the air—
*SNAP*
KITE-STRING FAILURE! My brand-spankin’ new KICK-BOOTY black shark kite SAILED AWAY!
We (me and at-the-time Boyfriend Guy) gave chase. For blocks. And blocks. And BLOCKS! But it was no use. My KICK-BOOTY (did I mention it was KICK-BOOTY?) shark kite went further and higher.
Then it was GONE.
And yes, we DID live in an area with bear caves. So… IT’S POSSIBLE!
Luckily, my AMAZING team at Little, Brown thought my idea of what COULD have happened next was possible, too!
REAL LIFE SPARKS THE BEST STORIES, GUYS!
HAPPY WRITING AND ILLUSTRATING! Keep KICKIN’ BOOTY! Ame

CONGRATULATIONS AME! Your books keep getting better and that’s saying something.
Talk tomorrow,
Kathy
Love the backstory Ame! We once bought a kick booty shark kite & it dive bombed straight into the ocean. Now it’s swimming w the sharks! Your little red head is a wonderful character. Thanks for bringing her and Horrible Bear into the world! (I shared HB on FB & Twitter @chanastiefel)

I love the idea! So much misery could be avoided if folks didn’t jump to conclusions, and didn’t start calling others nasty names!

When we go hiking in the woods of the Pac NW (or in the backyard of my cousin’s MIL’s house even), we have to watch out for Horrible Bear antics which are not as fun or funny as Ame’s story, I’m sure. 🙂 Thanks for the giveaway!

I just read this book to my youngest the other day — very funny! Thanks for sharing your back story! It reminds me of a kite story of my own. If I have time, maybe I’ll share it with you in the Poconos. I’m looking forward to your workshop as well as Zachariah’s!
