Karen Fortunati and editor Kate Sullivan

Karen Fortunati’s debut book THE WEIGHT OF ZERO is scheduled to release in the fall of 2016. Karen has a great team for the book, her agent is Sara Megibow and her editor for the book is Senior editor Kate Sullivan at Delacorte.

The subject of The Weight of Zero, is mental illness, specifically bipolar disorder, and it explores the shame, stigma and anxiety that often complicate the management of this chronic condition. The issue is personal to Karen, having witnessed the impact of depression and bipolar disorder in relatives and friends. In addition, her experiences with children as an attorney definitely influenced the writing of this story. All of this inspired her to write a story of hope for those who struggle with mental illness. You can follow Karen on Twitter – @karenfortunati.

Don’t ever stick up your nose at writing just a first page. This book sprung from the seed planted at a first page at the Avalon Writer’s Retreat. You can read the story about its’ birth and how it ended up being published over on Chasing the Crazies, along with an interview of Karen. Here is the link:

Little Red Riding Hood straps on ice skates in this fractured fairy tale! A figure-skating enthusiast, Little Red has worn out her skates and must win a pairs competition to earn new ones. But who will be her partner? The Dish is already skating with the Spoon, and Hansel has Gretel. You won’t believe what big eyes, sharp teeth, and furry paws her partner has . . . all the better to spin her with!

peep and egg

Joyce Wan has illustrated another book. Her bright and bold illustrations will have your young chickies giggling at Laura Gehl’s reassuring tale that takes the not out of I’m not. Coming out in February. Can pre-order on Amazon.

Egg is not hatching.

No way. No how.

It is too scary out there.

Peep wants Egg to hatch so they can do fun things together, like watch the sunrise, splash in puddles, and play hide-and-seek.
But Egg is not cracking…

jenniferReinherzcropped212Jennifer Reinharz wrote an original essay for a love and relationship website magazine called Your Tango. One of the editors found her on Twitter after reading her blog and asked her if she would do some writing for them. This is her first piece for them. Here is the link to read the article:

She also won the following awards in the 83rd and 84th Annual Writer’s Digest Competition for “A Pleasant Passover” – 5th Place, Inspirational Writing category. “A Letter to My Palestinian-American Muslim Friend” – Honorable Mention. erikaphoto-45Our own New Jersey Farm Scribe, Erika Wassell’s articles have gotten noticed, too. The Oregon SCBWI Chapter has reprinted one of her articles on Supporting Characters in their recent newsletter! Erika is also working on a few work for hire books.

So you can see that writing articles and getting your name out there helps to hone your writing skills and is a great way to get your name out there and you talent seen.

So keep all your doors open. You never know where you next success will come from.
