Free Fall Friday – Kudos

Everyone is singing “CONGRATULATIONS” in this January illustration done by Michelle Henninger. You might recognize it, because Michelle kicked off Illustrator Saturday on January 4th this year.

HMHheaderLogoEleven days later Michelle Henninger signed a two book picture book contract with Houghton Mifflin Harcourt thanks to her great rep. Christina Tugeau. So Michelle has started out 2014 the right way.

The same can be said for Tracey Baptiste. First she secures an editor position that I told you about a few days ago, now here I am telling you about her new book contract.

Tracey Baptiste’s THE JUMBIE SEED, which blends Caribbean island lore, adventure, and touches of horror into a tale about a girl who draws a monstrous jumbie out of the forest on All Hallow’s Eve, sparking a very personal war, was sold to Elise Howard at Algonquin Young Readers, with Emily Parliman editing, by Marie Lamba at the Jennifer DeChiara Literary Agency (World English).

Tara Lazar’s 7 ATE 9, a pun-packed preschool noir mystery, starring a hard-boiled Private “I” and a mysteriously missing number, was sold to Kevin Lewis at Disney-Hyperion, by Ammi-Joan Paquette at Erin Murphy Literary Agency (World).

Namrata Tripathi will join Dial as editorial director, reporting to Lauri Hornik, helping to oversee the acquisition and development of Dial’s list in addition to editing her own projects. She was previously executive editor at Atheneum.

Brooks Sherman will join The Bent Agency on January 27, representing picture books, young adult and middle grade fiction, and adult fiction and select nonfiction. He was previously an agent at FinePrint Literary Management.

Alexis Gargagliano has joined Atavist Books as executive editor, working on literary fiction and nonfiction as well as innovative digital projects. She was most recently editor at Scribner.

At Plume, Matthew Daddona has been promoted to assistant editor.

At Henry Holt, Kelsey Albertson has been promoted to sales coordinator; Leslie Brandon moves up to publicity manager; and Hannah Braaten has been promoted to assistant editor.

Tim Bartlett will join St. Martin’s Press as executive editor on February 3. Previously he was an editor at Basic Books.

At Henry Holt, Allison Adler and Caroline Zancan are both being promoted to associate editor.

Congratulations Everyone!

Next week I will post the first page critiques from Sean McCarthy, so check back for that.

Talk tomorrow,

Kathy
