Free Fall Friday – Industry News

The Spring Lake Writer’s Retreat has two spots left, so if you were thinking about going, now is the time to decide.

Amalia Hoffman is the author and illustrator of several picture books including The Klezmer Bunch and Purim Goodies. She also illustrated Friday Night with the Pope, written by Jacques J.M. Shore. She was featured on Illustrator Saturday September 18, 2010.

Scholastic announced a number of recent new hires and promotions:

In the editorial department, Anamika Bhatnagar has been promoted to publishing director, Scholastic Press, while Amanda Maciel moves up to executive editor, Scholastic. Emily Seife has been promoted to editor, while Emellia Zamani and Becky Shapiro move up to associate editor. Additionally, Zack Clark and Marisa Polansky move up to assistant editor. In the art/production department, Phil Falco, Yaffa Jaskoll, and Christopher Stengel have been promoted to art director. Rick DeMonico has been promoted to art director, licensed publishing, while Whitney Lyle moves up to senior designer.

At Workman, Netta Rabin is being promoted to the new role of associate art director and editor, as of January 1. She will have the lead design position on all children’s books, will work as an editor and developer of new children’s books, and will continue to acquire and conceptualize adult books and calendars.

Rebecca Friedman, previously an agent at Frederick Hill Bonnie Nadell Agency, has started her own agency – Rebecca Friedman Literary.  She can be reached at rebecca@rfliterary.com. The agency is interested in commercial and literary fiction with a focus on literary novels of suspense, women’s fiction, contemporary romance, and young adult, as well as journalistic non-fiction and memoir.

At Henry Holt, Sarah Bowlin has been promoted to senior editor.
