Kudos & Neil Gaiman Teaching

I was all smiles when I opened my mail on Friday, and found a copy of this lovely book by Robert Scott Thayer (Rob Regan). It is so much fun when you get to know someone, follow a story from first draft to published book, and witness the birth of the book. Rob even signed it with a thank you for all my support.

I doubly wanted to share this book with you, because Rob did not go the traditional route. He self-published and it is a great example of someone who created a high-end picture book and fulfilled his dream. He found the printer. He hired a fabulous illustrator to do the artwork and it’s gorgeous. Since he is a singer, song writer, and musician, he even created a CD to go along with the book, which he include with KOBEE MANATEE: Heading Home to Florida and I can’t wait to play. I am very impressed!

On top of all that, the illustrator he chose was Lauren Gallegos, who was featured on Illustrator Saturday: https://kathytemean.wordpress.com/2012/11/03/illustrator-saturday-lauren-gallegos/  She did a fabulous job.

I saw Ame Dyckman at the NJSCBWI Craft Day this past weekend and realized I missed congratulating her and letting you know about her new book TEA PARTY RULES.

You might want to check it out. It is the second of a long line of picture books to come.

Here’s the link for Amazon

I, also, wanted to point out that author Neil Gaiman will join the theater and performance faculty at Bard College (Annandale-on-Hudson, NY) in the spring, teaching an advanced workshop on fantasy writing. What an opportunity. If you live in the area you might want to check it out.

Talk tomorrow,

Kathy

  1. I was hoping the SCBWI fall craft weekend would have a bookseller to purchase Ame’s book and get it signed there! Alas, to the bookstore I go.

    • Well I did see Wendy and Kathy, but I didn’t see Ame on saturday – don’t tell me she was wearing brown hair or something?! 🙂

      • Lauri, No, her hair is still blue, but she didn’t show up until Sunday.

  2. THANKS, Kathy! It was terrific to see you at the dinner! I wish I could have made the rest of the weekend, too–I missed you guys! (And yup, my hair was blue, it’s blonde now, and it’s about to be purple! Life’s meant to be fun, right?) Hugs, all! 🙂

    • Ame, wait—in only two days it went from turquoise to blonde?! And so you decided to go with Olivia’s “purple” suggestion 🙂 She’s so cute 😀
