Felicia Chernesky had her first book signing for her new book when it hit the stores Last week. She says, “It turned out to be a wonderful experience speaking to the teachers attending the Fall Educator Reception at the Ledgewood, NJ, Barnes & Noble yesterday afternoon. It was thrilling to sign so many copies of Pick a Circle, Gather Squares, but I was even more excited that my parents were able to attend the reception (thanks, Mom, for these photos) and to be around a crowd of people who just LOVE books. It was wonderful to talk with the dedicated  teachers who stopped to chat and have a book signed.”

Pick a Circle, Gather Squares: A Fall Harvest of Shapes, published by Albert Whitman and illustrated by Susan Swan, came out September 1. You can look inside at Amazon. Take a look: http://www.amazon.com/Pick-Circle-Gather-Squares-Harvest-ebook/dp/B00FGIAFFQ/ref=sr_1_1?s=digital-text&ie=UTF8&qid=1382200506&sr=1-1

Felicia’s second book in this series of rhyming picture books, Cheers for a Dozen Ears: A Summer Crop of Counting, also illustrated by Susan Swan, comes out March 2014. Each book covers a season of the year, an early learning concept, and some aspect of a visit to a local farm—all inspired by family trips to farms and farm stands in Hunterdon County. I recently signed the contract for the third book, Sap, Tap, Maple Syrup! Collecting Winter Colors, illustrated by Susan Swan as well, and am working on a few new projects.

silvana246Silvana: The Greening

New Zealand author, Belinda Mellor Silvana, first book in her Silvana triology came out this week.

What readers have said about Silvana: The Greening –

Wonderful imagery more poetry than prose, it permiated the air around me with the sights and sounds of the woods.

Breathtakingly beautiful images.

… a fascinating and rich story, one I am completely swept into.

Silvana – the Turning is due out 2014 Book 3: Silvana – Restoration’ publishing date TBA.

You can preview the book by using this link: http://www.theshop.co.nz/COPYP/items/images/12214.pdf

Belinda Mellor lives with her husband and daughter and far too many animals on a lifestyle block in the Top of the South Island of New Zealand; a place the family came to on holiday some years back and forgot to leave. A background in theology and applied spirituality make her eminently suited to a life of goat milking and egg collecting.

At the age of five she won a school award for ‘free expression’ and has not stopped writing since. She was an inaugural winner of an Ian St James literary award for her fantasy story Bronwen’s Dowry (published with the eleven other finalists in the Collins anthology At the Stroke of Twelve). Since then she has been awarded a literary bursary and an award for a character-driven story, had numerous non-fiction and occasional fiction pieces published in magazines and local newspapers and a play for children performed by a theatre-in-education company.

Congratulations, Felicia and Belinda. Wishing both of you many more successes.

Remember to leave a comment to enter to win.

Talk tomorrow,

Kathy

  4. Congratulations everybody! How surreal it must be to see one’s book being given away, more of an honor than it being bought, in my mind. I hope this autumn will be plentiful for both of you.
