Free Fall Friday – Call for Submissions

The 2014 Writer’s Market is hot off the presses-which means it’s time for Robert Lee Brewer
Senior Content Editor at Writer’s Market to start gearing up for the 2015 Writer’s Market. And if you’re a working freelance writer, he could use your help!

He needs articles that deal with the business side of writing, whether that’s finding work, managing work, or promoting work for the 2015 Writer’s Market.

The 2014 Writer’s Market is the best guide for what I need, but past articles have covered topics including how to write great book proposals, find success blogging, craft winning pitches, build writer platforms, and more. The full guidelines, including how to submit your pitches, can be found on the blog.

Here are a few people who moved up in the industry this past week.

Director of publicity for Bloomsbury Children’s and Walker Children’s Katy Hershberger is leaving. She will start next week as an associate director of publicity for Simon & Schuster Children’s, as well as the Atheneum, and Margaret McElderry Books imprint.

At Harlequin’s Mira, Tara Parsons has been promoted to editorial director.

Those of you who like to use the picture prompt, you will fine it at the bottom of this post. It is by illustrator Maria Bogade who was featured on Illustrator Saturday in February.

WRITERS Sending in a First Page: Please attach your double spaced, 12 point font, 23 line first page to an e-mail and send it to kathy(dot)temean(at)gmail(dot)com. Also cut and paste it into the body of the e-mail. Put “August First Page Critique” or “August First Page Picture Prompt Critique” in the subject line. Make sure you have your name on the submission, a title, and indicate the genre.

CALL FOR ILLUSTRATIONS: Please remember to send in your illustrations for August. It is a great way to get seen and keep your name out there to get noticed. Send them to Kathy(dot)temean(at) with August Illustrations in the subject area. Please submit .jpgs at least 500 pixels wide.

The four chosen and their critiques will be posted on August 30th.

Agent Louise Fury is the Guest Critiquer for August.
