Marketing Plan and Photoshop Workshops

If you took a look at the New Jersey SCBWI Event being held in Parrispany, NJ on November 10th and 11th, then you know  I am doing a Marketing Workshop on Saturday and also a Photoshop Workshop on Sunday.  I thought I would share a little about both with you.

Develop an Effective Marketing Plan That Works for You – Saturday 10th – Free Day

Everyone knows that they need to have a marketing plan if they have a published book, but even if you are not published you still should work to develop a marketing plan to help you on your getting published journey.

We will talk about what published and unpublished authors should consider and how to lay out that plan.  If you have signed up to attend and know you will attend the marketing workshop and have a website, blog, or a book, you are invited to send me your information before the workshop.

I will look at what you send and will give you personal ideas that can help your career and/or sales of your books.  I will not have Internet access during the workshop to view your work.  Since I do not know how many are planning to attend, I will be happy to make a copy of the handout for you if you e-mail me to let me know.

We will talk about:

What works and how to implement those ideas.

What things you should include for your specific level.

Time Management.

Incorporating Networking into your plan.

Photoshop Workshop – Sunday November 11th.

Over the years many of you have said they wish they lived close enough to take my Photoshop classes, so I offered to do a Photoshop class for Leeza and she liked the idea.

An hour is not much time to teach Photoshop, so I plan to give a quick overview and show some of the hidden tools you can use in Photoshop.  I originally thought only the illustrators would be interested in this, but some of the writers have said they would like to take the workshop, too.

If you have a laptop you could follow along using Photoshop.  Even if you don’t own Photoshop, you can download a 30 day trial before you come and that would let you practice some of the things talked about in class.

Again, it would be nice to get a feel for how many people want to attend and what type of experience you have, if any with Photoshop.  So drop me a line and let me know, if you plan to attend and I will make sure I have a handout for you.

Here are some of the things we will discuss:

Using the Paint tools.

Taking out backgrounds.

Adding shadows and highlights.

Changing colors.

Using layers.

Adding texture.

How to use filters and when you use them.

Additional tricks to add to your illustrator or photography toolbox.

Saturday’s Free Event is filling up fast, so if you aren’t planning to attend both days, I would sign up fast.

Talk tomorrow,

  1. Oh, Kathy, I wish you were doing Photoshop on Saturday!!!

  2. This sounds like it will be wonderful. I wish I wasn’t so far away…I’d sign up in a heartbeat!

  3. Looks like excellent workshops – sorry I can’t make it. I’m up in chilly Canada!
    Good luck to you
