Free Craft Day and Writer and Illustrator Day Announcement

This September illustration was sent in by Doris Ettlinger. Doris has been illustrating for the children’s market for the last 20 years. Her most recent clients are Sleeping Bear Press, Albert Whitman & Co., and American Girl. Besides illustrating, Doris teaches watercolor to beginners and professionals at her studio near Hampton, NJ.

NJ SCBWI has joined up with Samantha Gale at the Somerset County Library in Bridgewater, NJ, to offer a free mix ‘n’ mingle evening. This event will highlight the SCBWI organization and offer networking tips ‘n’ tricks for newcomers as well as established members. From conferences and workshops to social media, find ways to network no matter what your comfort zone. Samantha will also talk briefly about NaNoWriMo and preparing for this year’s writing marathon.

Spend the day with editors, agents and art directors to help strengthen your writing and illustration skills, and move forward in your publishing careers. The day will include an illustrator intensive, editor/agent panel, first-page sessions, genre-specific presentations, and one-on-one critiques and portfolio reviews. Breakfast and lunch also included!
