Industry Update and Illustrator Call

Eileen Robinson publisher at Move Books is seeking illustrators.  This is a great opportunity.  Don’t waste it, especially if you can illustrate a good vintage old world map (note deadline).

Current Call for Map Illustrators

If you are a map illustrator and can do antique, old-world style maps, (vintage, antique) and/or work in a watercolor style (preferred but not necessary), or you have samples that you think might woo us in your direction, please email In the subject line type – Maps.

Please email the link to your page or you can email no more than 3 jpegs or pdfs, at least 500 pixels wide. If you send more than the requested attachments, we will not consider your work. We will let you know we received your artwork. But please, no phone calls or follow-up emails. We will contact you if we are interested. If we are not interested, your artwork will be deleted. Please also include a contact number where you can be reached.

Children’s Book Illustrators – General Submissions

Move Books is accepting ongoing submissions from illustrators. We are looking for artists who can do spot art well, comic strip kind of art and also covers. We will be taking a close look at how well you illustrate objects and scenes rather than specific characters. You can submit to

WRITERS: Eileen still has some critique spots left at the June Conference , but if you are an ILLUSTRATOR, you might want to consider taking a spot to show off your artwork in person with Eileen.

Agent Marissa Walsh has left Folio Literary and agenting all together.

At Abrams Children’s, Maria Middleton has been promoted to associate art director.

Susan Canavan has been promoted to senior executive editor at Houghton Mifflin Harcourt.

Jennifer LaBracio has joined Little, Brown Books for Young Readers as associate director of marketing. She was most recently senior marketing manager at HMH Children’s.

At Simon & Schuster, Colin Shields has been promoted to vp, director of digital sales. He will continue to have responsibility for the print business at, as well as digital sales for Amazon, Barnes & Noble, Apple, Sony, Kobo, and others.

Ryan Doherty has been promoted to senior editor at Random House’s trade paperback unit. In addition, Kelli Fillingim moves up to associate editor.
