Publishing Industry Kudo’s

Dianne Ochiltree (our guest critiquer this month) has a new book coming out this fall titled, MOLLY, BY GOLLY! It is being published by Calkins Creek, an imprint of Boyds Mills Press. It is a re-telling of the legend of Molly Williams, America’s first female firefighter, and is illustrated by Kathleen Kemly and was edited by Carolyn Yoder.

Blue Apple Books aquired a counting picture book for the very young, written by Dianne titled, GOODNIGHT, FIREFLY, illustrated by Betsy Snyder. The release date has not been set.

Joy Peskin has been named vp, editorial director of Farrar, Straus and Giroux Children’s, reporting to Simon Boughton. Previously she was associate publisher at Viking Children’s.

For some reason I thought I reproted this, but I could not find it, so I might be reporting this again.  If so, I apologize.  I just don’t want you to miss any news.  Leila Sales has been promoted to associate editor at Viking Children’s Books. She began her career in the marketing department at Penguin Books for Young Readers, and was most recently assistant editor at Viking. She is also the author of two books for young adults.

Next week Jill Scwhartzman will join Dutton as executive editor, reporting to Ben Sevier. She was most recently a senior editor at Hyperion.

Agent and blogger Rachelle Gardner has joined Books & Such Literary Agency. She had been at WordServe Literary Agency since 2007.

Marshall Cavendish Publisher Margery Cuyler’s THE RUNAWAY SKELETON, in which Big Witch and Little Witch decide to make Halloween stew, but the ghoulish ingredients have other plans, was sold to Josalyn Moran at Albert Whitman, for publication in Fall 2013, by Tracey Adams at Adams Literary. tracey@adamsliterary.com  You can get a critique with Margery at the NJSCBWI conference in June.
