What’s Happening in Children’s Book Industry

Connie Hsu at Little, Brown Children’s has been promoted. We will be seeing Connie this weekend, so I’ll get all the info for you. Also at Little, Brown Children’s, Tina McIntyre has been promoted to executive director, digital business development and operations, reporting to deputy publisher Andrew Smith, starting October 17.

Steve Geck is joining Sourcebooks in the new position of editorial manager for Sourcebooks Jabberwocky, responsible for acquisitions and the overall direction of the children’s imprint. He was executive editor at Harper Children’s Greenwillow Books imprint for nine years.

Lauren Weber has been named agency assistant at Pippin Properties following her summer internship at the company.

Lauren Weber joined the team as assistant following her internship during the summer of 2011. After a variety of experiences in publishing, from working for a scholarly publishing house to a fashion magazine, she is happy to find a position where she can combine both a love of reading and an interest in business. She is delighted to have a panoramic view to the inner-workings of children’s publishing and the opportunity to work with authors, illustrators, and publishers on a daily basis.

The 9th Annual Collingswood Book Festival is held every autumn in the historic town of Collingswood, NJ. This award-winning, all-volunteer book festival is a big literary event with a small-town, friendly ambience. Saturday, October 1, 2011, 10 AM to 4 PM. Festival-goers will have an opportunity to stroll more than six blocks of the main street filled with nationally recognized authors/speakers for adults and children, as well as booksellers, storytellers, poetry readings, workshops, exhibitors, kid-friendly activities, and entertainment for all ages. Free to the public.

Saturday, October 1, 10:00am – 3:00pm, Collingswood Cloud Auditorium
Books 2 Eat Exhibit. All are invited to view the delicious, creative, bookish foods that have been entered in the Retrospect Best of the Fest “Books 2 Eat” Contest. Judges are local chefs and library staff. Winners will be announced at Noon. Contest rules and pre-registration info at http://www.collingswoodbookfestival.com.

Book Appraisals. John Freas, member of the Antiquarian Booksellers’ Association of America, will appraise up to five books for a $5.00 donation. If you think rare books have to be old volumes from centuries ago – think again. Modern first editions can also be very valuable. Find out if you have a hidden old or new treasure!
