Illustrator Saturday – Penny Weber

Penny Weber is a full time children’s illustrator from Long Island, New York where she’s lived all of her life. Her work is mostly acrylic but she loves to experiment with mixed media.

Penny’s path has included greeting card illustration, residential children’s murals, and commissioned caricatures and portraits (all of which she still dabbles in).

It was about 12 years after she took a night course at The School of Visual Arts in New York City on Children’s Book Illustration that Penny finally decided to get into the business.  She quickly signed with  Wendy Mays and Janice Onken to be represented by WendyLynn & Company and has illustrated many books including, One Of Us published by Tilbury House Publications which was released June 1st, 2010!

Below Penny shares her process with you:

  1. Penny, this is wonderful stuff! I just LOVE the expressions on the kids’ faces—SO full of life!

And such great pics of the step-by-step. I think it’s especially interesting to those who aren’t privy to how it works. I just love it and congrats on being so successful with it! At the conference I saw your girl hugging the dragon and was impressed then too!
