BIG CONFERENCE NEWS!

We are very excited to announce that this year’s New Jersey Annual conference is going to be held at the Hyatt Regency Princeton
102 Carnegie Center     Princeton, NJ 08540.

This will give us more room, more air conditioning and easier parking and access.

I am, also, pleased to let you know that we have negotiated the great price of $89 a night to stay over.  Registration is up on http://www.newjerseyscbwi.com/events/100604%20conference.shtml  A direct link will be added so you can register for your rooms directly from the above link.  (I have to get the code from the hotel. The snow may hold things up – hope not.)

You can find all the workshops that make up the conference on the second page of registration.   I expect I will add more faculty as needed, but the reg. form is complete.  Remember the early bird gets the worm with lower prices, entry into first pages, pitches and their top choices.  Here is a list of the faculty as of today.

ILLUSTRATORS’ CONTEST

This is the third year for our NJSCBWI Logo Contest.  The winning logo is used on the tote bags given out to the editors agents and attendees at the conference.  Submit a logo design specifically for the 2010 Annual Conference. This is another great way to get noticed by editors and other industry professionals — also great to have on your resume!

All you need to do is create a logo in solid black and white to fit a maximum space of 8 inches x 8 inches. The logo should include the words: “New Jersey SCBWI Annual Conference 2010.”

The artwork shown in this post are from the last two winners.  I hope it gives you a feel for what we are looking for.  Last year we had some great entries, but they would not have printed well on a bag, because gray scale was used.

DEADLINE for the contest is: April 15, 2010. E-mail your design to Leeza Hernandez at leeza123@mac.com and Kathy Temean: kathy@newjerseyscbwi.com.

We only accept work that is at least 300dpi and saved as a jpeg file.

Gee, I hope you can join us this year.  It would be so nice seeing everyone. Just because you don’t live in New Jersey doesn’t mean you can’t come.  We have lot of people fly across the country to come to our conference.  In fact, we have had a few people attend from other countires.

I know this conference is going to beat last years conference and that is saying something with all the people who got agents and contracts directly due to attending.  Last years ratio of editor/agents to attendees was 1 editor for 7 attendees.  I think that is pretty terrific and probably why it was so successful.

Hope you can come,

Kathy

  1. Conferences are a wonderful place to meet other writerly folk. Between every session and at the meals, you have plenty of time to talk with other people who love children’s books as much as you do. I can’t wait to see all the familiar faces and meet some new ones, too.

    • Martha,

Thanks for pointing that out. I knew that was how he spelled his name, but never noticed the error.

      Thanks,

    • Barbara,

What was I thinking? I know that is how she spells her name. This post took me many hours to put up, I guess I was half asleep when I finished. Thanks for pointing that.

  7. I’ll bet.

Hoping to be there on Saturday. I can’t make Friday.

Could there be an art display on Saturday? I’m juicing up new samples.

Also, you mentioned a second Art Director…

    • Barbara,

The art display is Friday and Saturday. If you are only coming Saturday, you can sign up to display, but it will cost you $45 (early bird).

  8. Oh gosh, that cost is equal to two ms/dummies I can send out to publishers.

I will keep it in mind, tho. 🙂

    Cheers. Barb

    • Barbara,

I will consider lowering it and let you know. Have to think it over.

      • Barbara,

I lowered the cost to participate in the Art Exhibit to $25. I hope that helps. Even though you can’t attend on Friday, perhaps you could get your illustration and portfolio there on Friday. Maybe you could bring it before work or during lunch. Then you would have double the exposure.

I’ll think about it. (I can’t get there Friday.)

    Thanks. Barb

  10. Alas, it is out of my budget this year. Between art supplies, making and sending dummies, and a kid in college I am tapped out this year.

    Have a great conference. Barb
