In October of 2003, with four years of editorial experience (Hyperion Book for Children), Emily joined Pippin Properties, Inc., a boutique children’s literary agency located in New York City. Ever keen to pursue her love of children’s books and her career in this industry, she wanted to check out the view from the agent’s side of the desk . . . and there’s been no looking back. In addition to her role as Rights Director, she is also a literary agent.  Together with the founder of the agency, Holly McGhee, they represent some of today’s most exciting children’s book authors and artists, including Kate DiCamillo, Doreen Cronin, Harry Bliss, Betsy Lewin, Peter H. Reynolds, David Small, Kathi Appelt, and Jenny Han as well as new(er) faces in the field like Erin Bow, Jandy Nelson, Janet Reed Ahearn, Tao Nyeu, Michael Kaplan, and Drazen Kozjan, to name but a few.  They represent the youngest of picture books right on through to un-put-downable YA.

If you’re a writer who is interested in submitting a manuscript, please email a query letter to info@pippinproperties.com that includes a synopsis of the work(s), your background and/or publishing history, and anything else you think is relevant. Unfortunately, they are not a large enough agency to respond to each query individually. If you don’t hear from them within three weeks, please understand they have read and considered your query, and have concluded that they are not the right agency to represent your work at this time. If they do request additional material, they would appreciate an exclusive opportunity to review it for one month.

For illustrators interested in submitting their work, please send an initial query letter detailing your background in publishing or illustration and any other pertinent information. Links to Web sites with examples of your work are extremely helpful! If they are interested in seeing more of your work, they will either request that you send digital files, such as jpegs, or hard copies to be mailed to our office.

That little belly on Emily is caused by joy – a baby!
