New York Editor Dinners

GetAttachmentPre-dinner picture of Susan Podgor – illustrator and picture book writer and the “Naked Cowboy” taken by Hallee Adelman picture writer.  We thought it was unusal that he didn’t have a place to leave a tip.  Dah!  Look at the arrow on the guitar.  I guess we weren’t looking at the quitar.

I’ll fill you in on things tomorrow, since I just got home and it 1:00am, but I will tell you that I found out at one of the dinners that Patti Lee Gauch is leaving her Philomel in September to focus her time on her own writing and allow more time for speaking engagements.

Hopefully she will spend some time attending children’s writers conferences and continue to share her amazing expertise with all of us.  For those who don’t know Patti Patti, she is vice president and editor at large of Philomel Books as well as a respected author in her own right. She holds a doctorate in English literature, and has taught children’s literature on the college level and reviewed for The New York Times. Patti has edited three Caldecott books, including Owl Moon by Jane Yolen and John Schoenherr, and So You Want to Be President? by Judith St. George and David Small. She has worked with many well-known authors, including Jane Yolen, Andrew Clements, and Brian Jacques.  Besides all that, she is a very nice person and a regular at the Highlights Workshop in Chautautqua.  I am sure Philomel will miss her.
