Laura has had quite a stellar career in the Children’s Book Industry. She started out in the late 1970’s as an author writing picture-book retellings of Greek and Roman myths, under the pen-name, L. G. Bass, then went on to write fantasy with Sign of the Qin, the opening book in the “Outlaws of Moonshadow Marsh” trilogy in 2004.
In 1980 Laura joined HarperCollins as editor and in 1991 she started the Laura Geringer Books imprint. Since its inception, Geringer’s imprint sold more than 50 million books. Last August she stepped down from her eponymous imprint and now has partnered with Egmont USA. Geringer still has a working relationship with Harper Collins, so it seems she is working as a “free agent”. The number of titles she will bring to Egmont has not been set, but her first book titled, Dangerous Neighbors is scheduled for fall 2010.
Executive VP, Doug Pocock says, “The market’s not the same as it was 12 months ago.” He sees this a good opportunity to try a flexible approach to acheiving their goals.
