In 2007, 28 year industry veteran Brenda Bowen moved to HarperCollins to found the Bowen Press imprint, which Harper closed in February, just as the imprint was about to debut.
During the last 28 years Brenda was v-p, editor-in-chief and associate publisher of Global Books at Disney; executive v-p and associate publisher at Simon & Schuster Books for Young Readers; and editorial director at Scholastic Press – quite a noted career. Her strong knowledge of the children’s industry and expertise as a publisher landed Brenda a position as a literary agent at Sanford J. Greenburger Associates in New York City. Greenburger Associates has been representing authors for over 80 years. She will start on July 6th. The agency does represent a few children’s authors and illustrators, but it is obvious that Greenburger is trying to expand their reach into the children’s book market. I am sure they feel that hiring Brenda as the agency’s children’s book specialist will take them to the next level.
Brenda says that down the road, she also plans to start a “children’s packaging venture” within Greenburger. “That’s so I can provide publishers material they might not have the time or resources to develop in-house, and also authors sometimes have ideas that are too large in scope for a single author to develop. They like to join with others, so I can help facilitate that. ”
We wish Brenda lots of luck with her new direction, but I know luck will not be involved in Brenda’s success. She has proven that with her stellar career.

I am thrilled for her. When the imprint was dissolved, I was heartbroken–she’d just started the blog, and it looked like such a great endeavor. But now that she’s an agent, she’s going to be one of the first that I query ….once I finish my book of course!

Beth,
Thank you for your comment. I am sure she is going to get a ton of submissions. I can’t believe they dissolved the whole thing like that, right before they were about to get started. I’m happy to see her again.
