Macmillan’s Children’s Imprints

This information is not new but I thought worth mentioning, since I feel many children’s authors forget to submit to Macmillan’s Tor publications.  Tor Teen is published for young adults in hardcover and paperback for those 12 or 13 and up and its Starscape middle grade paperback imprint for readers 10 and up.  They publish a mix of commercial and literary fiction with most leaning towards science fiction, fantasy, romance and horror, etc.  In fact, they say they are the world’s largest publisher of fantasy and science fiction.

Susan Chang is a Senior Editor at Tor Books. She acquires and edits books for the Starscape middle grade and Tor Teen young adult imprints. She began her publishing career at HarperCollins Children’s Books, where she worked for nine years before moving on to shorter stints at Hyperion Books for Children and Parachute Publishing, a book packager. Susan joined Tor in 2004.

Susan likes science fiction, fantasy, paranormal romance, horror, mysteries, and books that combine genres in an interesting way. (For example, she’d like to see a western with fantasy and romance elements.) They do not publish picture books or nonfiction.

They are always looking for talented illustrators interested in doing cover illustration.  Remember they do not do piturce books.

Tor Books other imprints:  Forge, Orb, and Seven Seas.
