Highlights “Life in the Spotlight”

For the second year in a row, I was asked to start off Peter Jacobi’s “Life in the Spotlight” workshop sponsored by the Highlights Foundation.  Everyone arrived on Tuesday afternoon and toured Highlights and Boyds Mills Press.  When the tour was over, we headed out to the Boyds Mill House, which sits amongst the hills located in a scenic seclued area of PA.  The attendees checked into their cabins and later headed for the big house for dinner.  We were served a wonderful gourmet meal and spent some quality time getting to know each other.  On Wednesday, I spent a large amount of the morning going over each of their websites and discussed what was working and what wasn’t.  I gave them ideas on how to show themselves off on the Internet.  Talked about blogs, Twitter, and other networking opportunities.  Information was shared about setting up a marketing campaign, getting  radio interviews, getting on TV and how to create overall buzz about their books.  Later that day I said, “Goodbye” and left Peter to spend the rest of the week helping them develop the skills they will need to conduct effective school presestations and give a good speech.

Joyce Hostetter has put some pictures from the workshop on her blog.

You might want to keep your eye on the authors who attended this workshop.
