Agent Rachel Orr from Prospect Agency is this months critiquer. I will send her four first pages from what is sent in and post the results on February 1st.
Rachel joined Prospect Agency in 2007, after eight rewarding years editing children’s books for HarperCollins. She enjoys the challenge of tackling a wide variety of projects and is particularly looking for middle-grade and YA novels right now, as well as the next big picture-book illustrator. Rachel values her close relationships with authors and believes that nothing feels as good as a fresh, clean line edit.
For the writers who liked the First Page Picture Prompt, you can use the illustration below by Patrick Girouard who was featured on Illustartors Saturday this month to inspire a new first page. Everyone else is free to send in any first page they have written.
Make sure your first page is double spaced, 12 point font, 23 line first page to an e-mail and send it to kathy(dot)temean(at)gmail(dot)com. Also cut and paste it into the body of the e-mail. Put “January First Page Critique” or “January First Page Picture Prompt Critique” in the subject line. Make sure you have your name on the submission, a title, and indicate the genre and e-mail me by January 26th.
Below are three other things available for authors and illustrators who would like be promoted on Writing and Illustrating.
1. If you are a published author, you have a chance to be the Featured Author of the Month – Send me something telling me about yourself and a book(s) you have published.
2. Illustrator’s have a chance to be featured on Illustrator Saturday – send me your name, a little bit about you, and a website link to your illustrations.
3. Illustrators who have already been featured on Illustrator Saturday, or Illustrators just starting out and do not have enough artwork to be featured, can still get their artwork or new illustrations seen by professionals in the industry by participating by sending me illustrations to use during the month. It would be nice to send illustrations that go with the month.
Please put “January Illustrations” in the subject area and send it to kathy(dot)temean(at)gmail(dot)com as a .jpg at least 500 pixels wide and include a blurb about yourself and a link to see more of your work.
Look forward to hearing from you.
