Take A Break From Writing

Take a Break from Writing

Susan Heyboer O’Keefe

Ah, summer! Uh oh, make that ah-ah-ah-choo!

While I’m busy blowing my nose, the rest of you can do some summer surfing. (Hee hee! A pun! Puns are signs of great intelligence!)

1. What better for the dog days of summer than photos of authors with their dogs? Sixteen photos, from the venerable E. B. White to Amy Tan. I myself am allergic to dogs (as well as millions of plants and other animals), but alas, there are no photos of authors with parrots.

2. If that isn’t enough, here’s a bunch of famous writers at the beach. These are vintage authors, meaning dead, in mostly vintage swimwear, meaning funny looking. This is why I don’t swim—so that some day I don’t end up on a list like this.

3. And of course, everyone needs a beach read—in this case, several great YA series. Why a series? I don’t know about you, but I’ll have the time for a series because of all the hours I’ll save not swimming and not walking dogs.

Stay cool! And get back to work!

Thanks Susan for the post.  The pictures were a lot of fun.

Talk tomorrow,

Kathy

  1. Thanks, Susan! That was really enjoyable :)

I have to say, for some reason I always pictured Stephen King in a more spacious, warmer and sort of traditional office space, but when I really looked, it makes sense. It’s a confined space with everything he needs within reach and handy :)

    • Donna, I was very much taken by his office–not so much having everything within reach, but because nothing could sneak up on him from behind. A real consideration, given his books.

      • lol…wasn’t thinking about that aspect of it, actually, but you have a point!

  2. I’ve been taking a summer break. Now I don’t feel so guilty! Thanks.

    • Never feel guilty, Rosi! Reading about writers is close enough to writing itself than you can almost call it work.

    • Rosi,

      Funny how guilty lurks everywhere.

  3. Thanks Susan,

A really enjoyable and very funny blog. Thanks to you I may never show up at a beach again…unless in suit and tie!!!
